Job Title: Field Researcher (Field)
Reports To: Project Manager
Duration: (3-4 months).
Location: Lagos
Job Description:
An organization is seeking experienced Field Researchers to join our team for the a book project. As a Field Researcher, your role will be to gather primary data from various sources such as the field, courts, and other relevant sources. You will work closely with the project manager, legal writers, and legal experts to provide accurate and up-to-date information to support the writing process. Your research will contribute to the overall quality and credibility of the books.
Responsibilities:
- Data Collection: Conduct field research to gather primary data on the assigned topics, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and reliability of the information collected.
- Source Identification: Identify and establish relationships with relevant stakeholders, such as individuals, communities, legal practitioners, court officials, and other experts, to access valuable insights and information.
- Interviews and Surveys: Conduct interviews, surveys, and other data collection methods to obtain firsthand information and perspectives from key sources. Maintain professionalism and confidentiality throughout the data collection process.
- Documentation and Recordkeeping: Organize and document all collected data, ensuring proper categorization, labeling, and storage for easy retrieval and analysis.
- Court Visits and Observations: Attend court proceedings to observe and gather information on relevant cases, legal procedures, and judicial decisions. Take accurate notes and record relevant details for reference.
- Data Validation: Verify the collected data for accuracy, consistency, and reliability, cross-referencing with secondary sources and collaborating with legal writers and legal experts to validate the information collected.
- Report Writing: Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing the collected data, observations, and key findings. Ensure clarity, coherence, and adherence to the organization’s writing style and guidelines.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with the legal writers, legal experts, and other team members, providing timely updates, sharing insights, and seeking clarification when needed.
- Compliance and Ethical Considerations: Adhere to ethical standards in data collection, respecting privacy, confidentiality, and informed consent. Comply with legal and regulatory requirements during field research activities.
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and best practices related to the assigned topics. Continuously enhance research skills and knowledge through professional development opportunities.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Educational Background: A minimum of a Second Class Upper Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Law, Social Sciences, or a related discipline. A higher degree is an added advantage.
- Research Experience: Proven experience in field research, data collection, or similar roles, preferably in the legal or social sciences domain. Familiarity with research methodologies and data collection techniques is required.
- Knowledge of Legal System: Good understanding of the Nigerian legal system, court procedures, and relevant legal frameworks to navigate the field effectively.
- Excellent Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to conduct interviews, collect data, and write reports effectively and accurately.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail in data collection, documentation, and recordkeeping to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess the validity and relevance of data collected and identify key insights and trends.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to establish rapport with different stakeholders, including legal professionals, community members, and experts, to gather information effectively.
- Time Management: Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and prioritize research activities efficiently.
- Flexibility and Adaptability: Willingness to work in different environments, adapt to changing research requirements, and handle unforeseen challenges in the field.
- Ethical Conduct: Maintain high ethical standards, integrity, and professionalism throughout the research process, respecting the rights and privacy of individuals involved.
